28th February 2007

Hello. Welcome to another week on a small planet that is currently travelling at a speed of 100,000km/h around a large ball of gas that will burn out in about five billion years. Still plenty of time to book that dream holiday then.

Making film history

Thanks for all of your suggestions for the sort of films we should be making. Ideas included:

  • More about our fruit
  • More nutritional stuff from Dr Shilpee (our resident nutritional person)
  • More about how we invent recipes
  • And stuff about our carbon emissions
  • All sounds good, so we'll get cracking. Next week we'll interview Jessica, our Sustainability Manager, to find out about those pesky carbon emissions and sustainability in general. Time to charge the camcorder batteries.

    Droger dan een kamelenrug

Great news from Europe. They're also unleashing our blackberries & blueberries recipe in Holland, Belgium and lil' old Luxembourg this week. If you happen to find yourself in those countries and feel in need of this particular recipe, here's how to ask for it in Dutch:

"Mag ik alstublieft een Blackberries & Blueberries smoothie, meneer/mevrouw? Mijn keel is droger dan een kamelenrug."

"Please can I have a blackberries and blueberries smoothie sir/madam? My throat is drier than a camel's back."

    So now you know.

    The good stuff

There's a reason why camels (and people) love our blackberries and blueberries recipe.

    1. It's a sophisticated blend of delicate berries. Ooh posh.

    2. The recipe provides lots of healthy anthocyanins via these fancy purple fruits.

    3. We use wild blueberries in our smoothies. They taste better and are better for you.

    Karen's sorbet

Karen made a sorbet using our smoothies. She details the process right here. Thank you Karen.

    Most excellent

We'd like to let you know what we're doing with your money, via the innocent foundation. This week it's the turn of Excellent Development, a small NGO that operates in Kenya. Your money is funding a three year project to build sand dams in eastern Kenya, which will directly benefit 1,200 people and have an impact on 5,000. It aims to build five small-scale sand dams, which will provide clean water and improve the local environment. Watch films about this and other smart projects right here.

    And finally...

  • A map of the brain.
  • A big fish.
  • That old elusive upside down rainbow.
  • Chimps are catching up.

  • 21st February 2007

Welcome to the innocent news. At the moment we're in development mode - inventing lots of new drinks - and are trying to work out how we can have our own massive pillow fight. We made you a film too...

    Making movies

We like making films. We made a nice one about our apples a couple of months ago, and there's plenty more to watch on our YouTube channel. But we thought it was about time we became a bit more responsive and started making stuff that you want to watch. So we want you to tell us what films we should be making.

Our camera skills mean that they'll be fairly basic, but we'd love it if you could tell us what questions you need answering, which innocent people you'd like us to interview, which stories you'd like us to tell. Post your thoughts as comments at the end of this blog post. Thanks.

    Up front

It's not often we get a front cover. In fact, I don't think we've ever had a front cover. So we were quite happy when The Herald asked us to be on the front. Jon is in the middle looking tough, whilst the other two only have half their heads showing. There was also this nice bit in The Observer. Busy news week.

    Other innocent stuff

This week we heard about some pretty interesting new recipes that will be appearing from the kitchen very soon. We'd love to tell you what they are but we can't. It's all secret, which means we'll get sacked if we tell you about the new mangoes, XXXXXX and XXXXXX recipe. Also, our drinks just went on sale in over 200 branches of Superdrug, all across the land. So if you're popping in for some mascara and a bottle of Vosene, you can also buy a drink. Last little thing - our Peta is getting married to a man called Mr Fragaria, which is Latin for strawberry. Spooky eh?

    And finally...

  • The stackable car.
  • The science of folding paper.
  • An apple versus a supersonic wave.
  • Massive pillow fight.

  • 14th February 2007

Hello and welcome to the innocent news. This week we will discuss love, fox terriers and some really big boats.

    I heart you

Yes, it's Valentine's Day, so we thought we'd send you our news in lieu of a card. Stuff we've learned about Valentine's Day:

  • It's named after two men, both Christian martyrs named Valentine.

  • It's the second largest card-sending holiday of the year behind Christmas.

  • Women purchase approximately 85 percent of all Valentine's cards. Then it's cats with 7%, dogs with 5% and men with 3%.*

  • J’adore les mûres

It's been a while since we launched a new recipe in France. In fact, we've never properly launched a new recipe in France. So please give a big whoop/holler/ooh la la for the beginning of blackberries & blueberries in the land of love. We thought it deserved a holiday, seeing as it's been cooped up in the UK for a while.

Its slightly more alluring French name is 'mûres et myrtilles', which sounds a darned sight more sophisticated to us. But that's the French for you - sophisticated, suave and very good at buying Valentine's gifts for each other, as befits a nation of those fluent in the language of love.

    Stanley the fox terrier

We would like to interrupt the love to bring you a picture of a fox terrier drinking our new breakfast thickie. Pray silence for Stanley, 10 months old and a fan of our latest innovation, the ecobottle. Thank you Stanley.

    Supermarket Sweep

Back to love, and a specific TV love of ours. Supermarket Sweep has been on the telly for about 45 years now, but it hasn't aged one bit. So we were very proud when they got in touch with us to ask if we minded our drinks being in the 'supermarket'. Of course we didn't. And if it gave us the chance to go and watch the actual recording of a special celebrity version, starring Chris Moyles, Fiona Philips and Shane from Boyzone, then that would be even better. We even managed to pinch one of Dale Winton's cue cards, so all in all it was a wonderful day out. Keep an eye out for us on the telly.

    Last week's winners

Well done to the following, who all won last week's competition, which asked you to give us the name of Napoleon Dynamite's best friend. The answer was, of course, Pedro.
    Jenna G, Ciaran W, Lowri Elen J, Kathy C, Nicky, Kris Y, Emma L-J, Nicola H, Ian H and Nicky M

    And finally...

  • Listen to the Supermarket Sweep theme music.
  • The world’s clearest water.
  • Really, really big boats.

  • 7th February 2007

This week's innocent news is brought to you in conjunction with the letter 'P'.

    Pomegranates

In 2007, more than at any other time in history, we want to get closer to the fruit. Real close. This week we'll be invading the personal space of pomegranates, and sharing the following facts with you:

  • Pomegranates are grainy apples - the name comes from a couple of bits of Latin - pomum (apple) and granatus (grainy).
  • In France they're known as 'la grenade', which is where those nasty little hand-bombs got their names from.
  • We use the Hicaz variety of pomegranate, mainly because the juice is sweeter than the rest and because it contains a load of vitamin C.
  • Read more about the healthy side of pomegranates here and drink some pomegranates here.

    Ponchos and puffball skirts

It's Copenhagen Fashion Week - northern Europe's biggest fashion event. And we're helping out, by supplying smoothies to the models at their backstage bar and by setting up another smoothie bar for all of the people attending. We're hoping that some of the fashion magic will rub off on us, but just in case it doesn't work, we've done some research on how to stay fashionable.

    Prawns

We don't actually have any news about prawns. But here's a picture of some.

    Phree stuff

Seeing as we're submitting you to this P-ordeal, we'd like to give you something to say thanks for seeing it through. A case of drinks goes to the first 10 people to click here (this link was only available to family members) and answer the question correctly.

    Pink t-shirt

We thought you should know that the pink t-shirt finally sold for £222.89 to a nice man called Gerald. We folded it carefully and popped it in the post to him - if we get any pictures of him modelling it, we'll be sure to pass them on.

    PS...

  • Phantastic chair.
  • Peeper-dwelling critters.
  • Photos of some fine bugs.
  • Phreaky orange snow.
